On Halloween, meet the local artists whose work is on display in the Muse Vineyards Tasting room!
This invitational exhibition, inspired by the fauna of Halloween and highlighting recycled materials, is presented by conservation nonprofit Sustainability Matters. It pays homage to two of the most traditional and misunderstood symbols of Halloween. British lore says a black cat walking toward you brings luck. Haym, Sustainability Matters’ official spokescat, certainly brings us luck. The spider, the ultimate symbol of creativity, shows its power in the way it spins its web. A source of fear for some and fascination to others, the spider is an ancient being, having inhabited the Earth for more than 300 million years. Abandon negative superstitions and enjoy this whimsical exhibition!
Spokescats & Spiders is sponsored by Route 11 Potato Chips and curated by Trudi Van Dyke, an independent fine art curator specializing in fine craft and fiber.
ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY MATTERS
Sustainability Matters cultivates community through conservation. A young Virginia-grown grassroots nonprofit, we make sustainability fun, realistic, and inclusive of all. Whether it’s planting native wildflower meadows at landfills through our Making Trash Bloom project, hosting the Valley’s largest Earth Day festival and Community Plant Swaps, teaching novice gardeners to grow their own food, or partnering with state and federal agencies to help farmers access funding for conservation practices, we empower individuals, families, farms, and businesses to help the environment while helping themselves. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram (@sustainabilitymattersVA), check out our Native Virginia Now videos on YouTube (@sustainabilitymatters), or visit us at www.sustainabilitymatters.
ABOUT HAYM (the gorgeous model in the banner photo)
Haym’s career as Sustainability Matters’ official spokescat began accidentally, as social media clickbait in our early days. He is now an established member of our team, posing tirelessly with invasive plants and recyclables, greeting his fans, and managing his own Twitter account (@spokescat). He has been featured multiple times in local print media. Haym lives with Sustainability Matters’ Executive Director, Sari Carp, and a clowder of careerless cats whom he ignores. He arrived as a stray on July 4 and is named after the unsung hero of the American Revolution, Haym Salomon.
Along with our award-winning wines, we offer lunch and other delicious food offerings. You are welcome to bring your own food for a picnic on our lovely groomed lawn. Outside food is not permitted in the Tasting Room, the Terrace, or the Deck, however. Outside alcohol is not permitted anywhere on the property by Virginia state law.
