In Compliance With Virginia Regulations:
During the month of November, Rosemary Gallick will be featured in our tasting room.
I have been creating art since childhood and it has been an enduring passion. My paintings are comprised of a series of abstracts, musical themes and portraits that focus on popular icons. Vibrant colors explode on the canvas. I try to capture an energy of the performer or
the explosion of colors. Frequently, I embellish the surface to create a 3-d effect. My artwork ranges from portraits of pop icons to still life renderings that focus on music and elements of enjoyment. I have been honored to have my artwork featured in Elan magazine (May 2011) and in the Vienna “Take a Seat” bench project (July 2019) and in the Northern Virginia magazine (November 2009). My paintings were selected for the covers of the Northern Virginia Review (Spring 2011 and 2015). I received the Outstanding Faculty Award for College and Community Service at Northern Virginia Community College-Manassas campus in 2016. My artwork was part of a juried exhibition at the Emerge Gallery in Saugerties, New York. Ms. Gallick was also selected as the Artist in Residency for August and September 2019 at the Haymarket Museum, Virginia. I also frequently display my artwork in rotating shows at the Sherwood Center in Fairfax City and at the
Village Green Gallery in Vienna, Va.. Recently, my galactic artwork was part of the Millwood Spring 2022 exhibition and was the Featured artist from May-July at the Barrel Oaks Winery in Delaplane, Va. In addition to my full-time teaching, I am the Gallery Director at the Manassas campus of Northern Virginia Community College in Manassas, VA. The primary goal of my creations is to have the viewer respond by reflecting on memories that evoke a joy and appreciation of living!

Join artists Barbara Camph and Ellen Fairchild-Flugel at Muse Vineyards to learn about their unique artwork.
BARBARA CAMPH. US-born Barbara Camph has been a full-time stained glass artist for more than 20 years, running her own business in southern Portugal, Panama, and now the U.S.
Her work ranges from large window installations, lamps, and mirrors, to smaller gift items.
Barbara teaches extensively, either at her home studio or at other locations. Known as “the glass lady” she can produce virtually anything in glass.
Barbara became the foremost stained glass producer and designer in Algarve, Portugal, supplying a wide range of commission pieces and gift items through a variety of outlets. Barbara is particularly proud of being one of the initiators and founding members of ArtXelb, an artists' cooperative which is based in Silves, Portugal.
ELLEN FAIRCHILD-FLUGEL. Ellen's metalworking experience began at age 16, when she designed her first ring from the red wax coating on Gouda cheese and cast it in silver. Her journey in metal has evolved over the years to include forging iron, larger-scale casting, etching, forming metal over stakes and anvils, welding, soldering, construction, and more.
Creating relationships and contrast between natural elements is a recurring theme in her work. When designing she incorporates unusual textures and materials with metals to complement the beauty of each; copper and art glass, bronze and marble, handmade paper with gold, silver, and gems. All of her pieces are one of a kind.
She is a member of OASIS Fine Art & Craft.

Visit on November 6th to meet the "Days of Wine & Music" artist, Rosemary Gallick.
As a child growing up in the bleak hills of the steel town of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Rosemary sought inspiration with paper, pencil and found joy in a treasure box called Crayola! Small jars of tempera paint opened other venues of the imagination. Once the magic of creating figures began, she traveled to many self-created, two-dimensional universes.
In 1969, she arrived ready to embrace New York, having been fascinated throughout high school with the cover of Bob Dylan’s Freewheelin’. She attended the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook and was very interested in social activism blossomed! Her passion for rock and roll also soared at the midnight concert series that were held in the campus gymnasium on a very frequent basis.
Rosemary Gallick is a Professor of Art and Art History at Northern Virginia Community College where she has taught since 1996. She holds a B.A. from the State University of New York in Art and an M.F.A. from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York. She also has a Master’s degree in the Communication Arts from Cornell University. Rosemary has taught Art Appreciation and numerous Art History courses for 30 years, not only at Nova but also at George Mason University. In addition to publishing various articles on art, she is a practicing artist. Her artwork has exhibited throughout the United States and in local venues including Fairfax, Reston and Vienna, Virginia. Ms. Gallick was awarded the 2017 Featured Artist for the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Community College Systems and in 2020! Rosemary was also the Featured Artist at Barrel Oaks Winery in Delaplane, Virginia that displayed over 55 of her paintings from May-July 2022.

ELLEN FAIRCHILD-FLUGEL At age 16, I designed my first ring from the red wax coating on Gouda cheese and cast it in silver. I was hooked! My journey in metal has evolved over the years to include forging iron, larger scale casting, etching, forming metal over stakes and anvils, welding, soldering , construction , and more. Creating relationships and contrasts between natural elements has been a recurring theme in my work. I love the intensity of Australian Aboriginal Art and have been inspired by the instinctual blending of visions, history, and sense of place. My goal with my work is to express motion and energy – and provide a visual feast!! When designing I like to incorporate unusual textures and materials with metals to compliment the beauty of each; copper and art glass, bronze and marble, handmade paper with gold, silver, and gems. All of my pieces are one of a kind. Currently I am a member of OASIS Fine Art & Craft and am also concentrating on commissioned jewelry and sculpture, (collaborating with clients melding their vision and mine, is one of my real joys).
METAPHYSICAL LANDSCAPES Sculptures in metal and mixed media interpreting the landscape of the Shenandoah Valley through natural and metaphysical forms. Each piece changes with light and shadows drawing the viewer into their own personal journey.

Welcome back Dr. David Guggenheim! You've seen him before for his photography exhibits, now you can experience another passion: The Ocean! We are so excited to host his book launch with a signing event in our tasting room. He'll sign copies of his book, he'll chat about his work, and he might even show us some photos from his research.
“The Remarkable Reefs of Cuba” tells the story of the demise of the world’s ocean ecosystems, the hard work of those trying desperately to save it, and an unexpected beacon of hope from an island full of mystery and surprise.
About the Author:
David E. Guggenheim, Ph.D., is a marine scientist, conservation policy specialist, ocean explorer, submarine pilot, and educator. He is the founder and president of the Washington, DC–based nonprofit organization Ocean Doctor, dedicated to advancing the conservation of the world’s oceans through research, education, and community engagement.
He is an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University, where he teaches ocean sustainability, and was inducted into the Explorers Club as a national fellow in 2008. He makes frequent speaking, television, and radio appearances and has appeared on 60 Minutes, Good Morning America, CNN, MSNBC, PBS Newshour, and NPR. Guggenheim has been the vice president of the Ocean Conservancy, president and CEO of the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, co-chair of the Everglades Coalition, president of the Friends of Channel Islands National Park and board chair of the Great Whale Conservancy.

Brent Funkhouser remembers his parents running out to an Allman Brothers show when he was nine years old and leaving him at home. To this day, he’s still a little peeved he didn’t get to see the legendary Southern rockers live.
As Brent moved into his teens and beyond, his family’s love of music (and a lot of concerts attended together) inspired him to learn his way around the guitar and other instruments and take his own shot at a performing career.
In just a few years, the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, native has gone from soloing at his high school talent show to playing up to 80 gigs a year up and down the eastern seaboard. Steeped in the Americana tradition, Funkhouser has been influenced by Jason Isbell, Tom Petty, Brian Fallon, Tyler Childers, and Gordon Lightfoot. He incorporates different aspects of folk, country, and rock music into his music for his own distinct style.
Funkhouser writes, records, mixes and masters his music, while leaning on ace musicians to join him in creating multi-layered soundscapes to back up his highly personal lyrics. His latest EP, Goodnight Dear Catherine, is his strongest yet, offering up an eclectic and exhilarating mix of straight-ahead country rockers, brooding jams and ballads.
Although based in Virginia, Funkhouser has travelled extensively for performances. He has performed in eight different states, with notable locations including Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Chapel Hill, and New York City. He has been an opener for Judy Collins, Phil Vassar, and Jounce (Danny Tamberelli), and plays shows with numerous other regional and local artists. Funkhouser has performed at numerous festivals including the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival, Porch Stomp, and Dayton Days.

Meet the artist! Mike Caplanis will be in the Tasting Room 2-5pm to chat about his unique caricatures.
A career in advertising was great for a man whose Big Life Plan was to eventually chuck it all and paint. I knew the day would come when there wouldn’t be a lot of choice in the matter and the “need” to paint would overcome the simple desire. Actually, that day came some years ago when I began to show and sell my work at L Ross, a pre-eminent little gallery in Memphis. Early success there allowed me to think that I could continue this change-up in careers, and so I have.
Doing what you are compelled to do has a bracing effect. There’s a great freedom in filling your hours with acts of creation, borrowing from nature and hoping that what results when the brushes and pens are set down, is something like a mark of the face of human history.
I can muse about that sort of thing when working because for this painter, painting itself is a strangely non-cognitive process. That is, I can fill my mind with things not related to the work, because the process is what’s doing the heavy-lifting.
I do very little planning before I begin a work and that’s key. I’m an impulse painter and all my drawing is very sketchy—get in, get it down, get out. My best work looks tossed off. It isn’t and I have to work very hard to get it to look that way.
Learn more about Mike.

Live Music with Fiddlin' Willie!
The Fiddlin' Willie Band hails from across the road. Fronted by the prodigious musical wizardry of our 15-year old neighbor Willie Marschner, and backed up by his Dad, the band has played Muse Winery's St. Patrick's Day show since 2016. (This year it's a bit late, Willie has school obligations!) Although the band plays music ranging from Abba to Zydeco, St. Patrick's is a day the band gets jiggy with traditional Irish reels, hornpipes, sean nos airs, and ballads. So you want to go to a real party? Come to Muse and bring your dancing shoes.

About the Artist
Like many artists, Ryan Jewel was drawn to music at a young age. When he got his first guitar, there was no turning back. By high school, Ryan started playing with the idea of becoming a professional musician. By his sophomore year at Clemson University, Ryan and his fellow bandmate, Andrew Beam, were burning up every bar, club, sorority, and fraternity party they were able to. They went by the name Beam & Jewel and played 3 nights a week for the remainder of Ryan’s college career.
A native of Front Royal, Virginia, the country music singer/songwriter released his first EP “Up on the Drive” in 2016. This EP helped him gain traction with his music career around his hometown, the Shenandoah Valley, and further. Along with his EP, Ryan was a runner-up in the 2015 Texaco Country Showdown, a nationwide talent search, which solidified Ryan’s calling for a music career. Ryan has had the privilege of being the opening act for some major country artist’s such as Marty Stuart and Lauren Alaina. He has also shared the stage with fellow Nashville artists, and Clemson buddies, Cody Webb and Doug McCormick.
Ryan’s rich, baritone vocals, paired with his authentic songwriting, which reflect his own life experiences, have help build him a strong fan base who enjoy Ryan’s “what you see is what you get” style of shows and attitude.
When Ryan moved to Nashville in 2017, he hit the ground running; signing a management deal with Harmony Music Group Mgt just two weeks after moving to town. “If we didn’t sign him, someone would’ve jumped all over him as soon as he opened his mouth around town and started singing” – (Fred Conley) He started singing demo’s for many established writers around town and soon after, began writing with many of those same writer’s.
Ryan recently released his second studio EP “Heads, i’m yours…” to all digital platforms and is currently selling hard copies along with new merchandise at all of his shows.

Marine scientist and conservationist Dr. David E. Guggenheim, the “Ocean Doctor,” is president of the nonprofit organization, Ocean Doctor in Washington, DC, dedicated to ocean conservation. He has been featured on 60 Minutes, Good Morning America and numerous other media.
Dr. Guggenheim will provide a Fireside Chat at Muse Vineyards discussing his nearly 20 years as an American working in Cuba in collaboration with Cuban marine scientists to study and protect its coral ecosystems, presented against a backdrop of Cold War-era politics, maddening bureaucracy, and the daily challenges of Cuban life. His account simultaneously traces his passion for coral reefs from his teen years to the present and the heartbreaking death of the reefs he had so treasured – along with half of the coral reefs in the Caribbean. Scientists around the world are now in a desperate race to prevent the complete loss of coral reefs that some predict could happen by the end of the century.
Through Guggenheim’s experiences, he introduces us to Cuba’s remarkably healthy coral reefs, a “living time machine” harboring healthy coral reefs. the first time offering hope that perhaps Cuba – which chose a much different path of development than the rest of the Caribbean – holds the key to the protection and restoration of coral reefs everywhere. He will also provide short readings from his forthcoming book, DEEP in Enemy Territory: An American’s 20-Year Odyssey in Cuba and the Desperate Race to Save the World’s Coral Reefs.
Enjoy a cozy and informative evening by the fireplace in the tasting room and enjoy Muse Vineyard’s award-winning wines.

Mike Travers and Derrick Knopsnyder are two comedians from Pittsburgh PA who have been traveling around performing their show at wineries across the country since 2018.
Their show is a mix of stand up and crowd work, which is sure to keep the audience engaged and laughing the entire night. The combination of crowd work and stand up is a unique mix that these two do so well and what's given them glowing reviews from wineries and audiences all over the United States.
The two have been working together since 2018 but prior to that, they've shared the stage with some of comedy's greatest names like John Mulaney, Bo Burnham, Chris Porter, Jim Breuer, Jon Lovitz, and Rob Schneider just to name a few. They've performed at countless fire halls, VFW's, wineries, theaters, farms - literally anywhere there is an audience and a microphone!
They found one underlying thing - the smaller the town, the better the show and so the two set off to do comedy in small towns, see the country, and drink in the middle of nowhere, which is what this show is all about! So come on out and drink and laugh with them!
Tickets ARE REQUIRED for this event, please purchase tickets HERE. Seating on the deck begins at 6:30 pm, if you plan to have dinner with us, please be sure to place your order before 7:30 pm so you don't miss anything!

Freddy Hall Deemed “a true artist of the human condition” by Performer Magazine, Freddy Hall crafts songs about life, love, and everything in between. This indie/pop darling mixes sonic and anthemic elements of monumental artists like The Killers, Beck and Amy Winehouse as well as the sophistication of songwriting greats like Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell.
A Virginia native, Freddy set up camp in Brooklyn in the fall 2008 after graduating with esteem from Berklee College of Music, in Boston MA. He quickly made a name for himself touring with Duncan Sheik’s Tony award winning musical SPRING AWAKENING.
Freddy’s has worked with songwriting giants like Carole King, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, and Vanessa Carlton. His musicianship has been featured on Disney+, This American Life, Billboard, and was a staff favorite at Performer Magazine.
Freddy comes alive when he steps on stage. His ability to connect with his audience has landed him in venues of all shapes and sized; from Lincoln Center, to makeshift stages in living rooms. His engaging and energetic performances have earned him a diverse and dedicated fan base.
Earlier this year Freddy teamed up with producer Anthony “Rocky” Gallo (John Legend, Cigarettes After Sex) to record his third studio album Dazy. Dazy is a musical evolution for Hall, expanding on his storytelling capabilities and passion-pop, all the while experimenting with new structures, themes, grooves and sounds.
Due out this Fall, Dazy is a journey of self-discovery through loss, and is offered as a beacon of hope, especially to the most fragile among us.

During the month of April, Mike Caplanis will have art on display in the tasting room.

During the month of July, Kary Haun will have ceramic pottery on display in the tasting room.
In studying and working in ceramics for 30 years, I have always been fascinated by the complex problem of integrating three essential elements of ceramic design: form, surface, and function.
What I love most about creating functional pieces of art is the vision of their usefulness. The idea of the viewer or user having a relationship with the piece that speaks to their love of food and drink whether pouring, serving or sipping. While I am creating my work, I am very concerned with its function. At the same time, I wish to elevate the experience of everyday life to something extraordinary.

A recent highlight for her was opening for the Four Tops last summer at the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival in Orkney Springs.
Come out and hear her at Muse Winery, where she will perform some jazzy renditions of some of her favorite songs.
